Offshore Trips Around Phuket
Phuket has 39 accompanying islands mostly on the east of Phuket Island. It is well-equipped to provide offshore trips making it a centre of tourism in the Andaman Sea. Interesting attractions are:
Raya (or Racha) Islands Two islands running roughly northeast to southwest off Phuket's southern coast -
Raya Yai Island This island has a clean white sand beach. On the west coast is a horseshoes shape beach between the hill called Ta Tok Bay or Galow Bay: a clean white sand beach with- clear water. From the top of the hill to the south of the bay is the viewpoint from which the whole of the southern islands can be seen. There is also Siam Bay and Tue Bay. On the east is Kon Kae Bay; there are soft coral reefs which make this bay one of the excellent sites for diving. The (2 hours), long tail boat can be rented at Chalong Bay for arranging the trip for diving and swimming. Taking the service from travel agencies in downtown Phuket is another alternative. The best period for travelling is December - February.
Mai Thon Island This island has beautiful coral reefs, crystal water and a white sand bay. It is an ideal place for swimming, diving and fishing. Accommodations are provided on the island.
Coral Island or Hey Island Beautiful beach and splendid reefs. The boat to the island can be taken from Rawai Beach.
Lon Island The area of the island is mostly mountain with flat ground at the seaside. The ferry departs from Chalong Bay. The travel period takes about 20 minutes.
Rang Yai Island Lying off Phuket's east coast, this small island has been developed for outdoor tourists. Some of the interesting activities are snorkelling over the coral reefs, sea kayaking, mountain-biking, playing miniature golf and visiting the island's pearl farm. To travel to Rang Yai Island, boats may be hired at Laem Hin Pier from Phuket Boat Lagoon.
Ma Phrao Island This small island is on the east side of Phuket Island. To get to the island, take the ferry from Learn Hin seaport, for about 15 minutes. There is a fishermen village on the is land, People still keep their traditional lifestyle. Moreover, there is a natural study route that can be explored by trekking or renting a bicycle to travel around the island. If you want to take a boat for fishing and sightseeing, you can rent a fishing boat from a fisherman. There is no accommodation available on the island.
Khai Nok Island This small island is not far from Phuket Island. It has a beautiful delicate white beach around it. There are plenty of tiger fish, coral and overlapped stone coral reefs around the island. Boat can be rented from Learn Hin Pier to visit this island. Tourists always stop at Khai Nok Island for relaxation and swimming. There is no accommodation available on the island.
Bon Island This is a small island to the south of Phuket Island. There is a white sand beach for swimming. It is also suitable for a one day trip by renting a boat from Rawai Beach or Ka Cape. There is no accommodation available on the island.
Yao Yai Island This island is in Phang-nga Province, but travelling from Phuket is more comfortable. There is a long beach suitable for swimming. A fishermen village is on this island. Local people here have a very simple lifestyle. Homestay accommodation is also available for tourists who want to experience the local lifestyle and be involved in local activities such as fishing and bicycling along a natural study route.
Phang-nga Bay National Park This ocean national park consists of about 300 islands. Most of them are famous and astonishing islands. They are beautiful tourist attractions and very popular amongst tourists such as Ta Pu Mountain, Ping Kan Mountain, Pan Yi Island, etc.
Phi Phi Islands This island is in Krabi Province. The distance from Phuket or Krabi Provinces to Phi Phi Islands is about 40 km. They are composed of Phi Phi Don Island and Phi Phi Le Island with a distant of 2.2 km. It is a beautiful island in terms of landscape and sea. Tourist can take a one day trip to visit the islands or stay overnight. There are tour services from Phuket Island to other islands such as Surin Islands, Similan Islands, Lanta Islands and Ta Ru Tao Islands.
