Vegetarian Festival Phuket's biggest and most exciting annual celebration, the Vegetarian Festival takes place over the first nine days of the 9th lunar month (usually October). It is a time when Phuket islanders of Chinese descent follow a vegetarian diet as a form of purification in order to ensure good fortune in the coming year. It is marked by colourful processions and by devotees performing amazing acts of self-mortification, including fire walking and piercing the body with skewers.
Phuket King's Cup Regatta The first event was held in 1987 in honour of His majesty's 60th birthday. many participants from around the world come to join the competition, which is the largest and most popular in Southeast Asia. It is held yearly on the anniversary of His Majesty's birthday, 5 December. The site of the regatta is Nai Han Bay.
Laguna Phuket Triathlon This annual year-end event gathers the world's top triathletes and hundreds of amateurs competing for prize money and placing on the world triathlon circuit. The course, which includes swimming, bicycling and running through the beautiful natural surroundings of a Phuket in Tambon Choeng Thale, takes from two-and-a-half to five hours to complete.
